The ex-Real Madrid coach, who is currently in charge of Russia, has given his verdict on the pair and Neymar
Former Real Madrid boss Fabio Capello believes Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and not Cristiano Ronaldo. The current Russia coach was in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu for two short spells from 1996-97 and 2006-07, winning La Liga twice.
Although he respects the ability of the current Ballon d'Or holder, Capello rates the Barcelona forward as the better of the two and thinks Neymar has some way to go before he can challenge either superstar.
"Messi has the creativity and imagination, he always goes straight for the goal," the Italian told reporters in Shanghai. "He passes like no one else in the world.
"Ronaldo, on the other hand, is pure power and pace. His shooting is very potent and he's a natural goalscorer.
"Neymar is young and must be given time. In my opinion, the Brazilian has more imagination than Ronaldo but both are still far from Messi, who is on another planet. Neymar has the speed of Messi but needs time."
Capello thinks the pressure on current Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is natural considering the club's expectations but that Barcelona's draw with Sevilla on Saturday has given his former club a fighting chance of catching their rivals in La Liga.
"Ancelotti's pressure is typical of Madrid," he added. "Barca's draw the other day against Sevilla gives life to Real Madrid in the title race."
Real Madrid, who face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, remain two points behind Luis Enrique's side in the Spanish title race
